As a resident of Penang from 1962 to 1966 and a visitor for the past three years I have always found that the people to be friendly and the traders and amenities to be possibly the best in the world as I have never been assaulted by the ‘profiteering’ that I encounter in other countries of the world.

Genuine competition has always existed which I feel has helped Malaysia to be respected by all nationalities. I am now disappointed by the latest move to charge ‘non-Malaysian’ citizens nearly four times as much for a return visit on the Penang Hill Railway! This would appear to be the first nail in the coffin for your ‘moral standing’ and if followed by other visitor attractions will certainly start to show visitors that now even Malaysians are prepared to ‘rip-off’ tourists!

I feel this is a bad move and as I actually love Malaysia and feel it is a second home in my heart, I am concerned that you are now showing to the world that you are no longer showing the values that I learned when spending my formative years in your country.

Im so proud to be a Malaysian but here an example of what one wld say of improper planning on the price fee of Rm 8 for Malaysians and Rm 30 for a foreigner ??? Personally I hav never experience something like this in a foreign country. They hav a standard fare or a very minimal difference that even with a magnifying glass u cant see it. But in our case to charge a foreigner 4x the price is jst too much, double the price if u must or make it a standard fare for all.Dont tarnish the tourism industry,Penang Hill has been there for a long time and most tourist would like to visit it.Gaining a profit is one thing but dont make our visitors look at us as scammers by charging them 4x the fare!!Thia is directly DISCOURAGING to a foreigner and it leaves a lasting bad impression.
